See the entranced look on her face? She cannot deny the magic and majesty of the unicorn. At first she was skeptical but once she rode it around the upstairs at Target she was convinced that, not only are unicorns pretty but, they imbue those who get to know and love them with a sense of unending hope, compassion and love for all creatures great, small and magical.

Notes from the taper:
The show was fucking ridiculously awesome. They closed the main house and had the bands (Cop Shoot Cop opened) set up facing the backstage area, and everyone filed in from the alley door into the backstage. There were no risers or anything, The Lizard was right on the floor with the rest of us (though I was on a chair in the back) and there were numerous problems with the crowd going batshit and gear getting fucked with and cutting out, as you will hear at the beginning of Nub. Yow was in top form and was busting out with the funniest fucking banter I've ever heard from him. There was a beleaguered "stage manager" who kept frantically exhorting the crowd to "relax" and "calm down" and Yow didn't really, um, help him...at all. One of those shows where the fire marshall had swung by and threatened to shut it down. Fun fun.

The sound is surprisingly excellent, especially given that stock mic I was using. Some crowd noise in-between songs. If you were the dude who was there and kept yelling "take off your pants", you don't know how much I wanted to kick you in the head you loudmouthed little shit. But that's just me. Hope ya like it. In the words of Mr. Yow: "peace brothers and sisters, suck my ass."

Aren't they the most magestic creatures ever? I bet their saliva could cure cancer. I bet the act of petting them would end all war and suffering. I bet riding them would not only end depression and anexiety but would be a lot of fun. Its a shame such wonderous animals are extinct; but at least they live on, not only in our hearts and imiginations but in 4 inch replicas of rainbowy unicorn bliss.

I miss the Rick Emerson show!

This show was the final night of YLT's 1st annual "8 nights of Hanukkah" benefit concerts at Maxwell's, in YLT's hometown of Hoboken.
Each night YLT featured different special guests, many of which were unannounced, and included many covers that YLT had never previously performed.

I saw many a great show here: The Cramps, No Means No (with Jawbreaker opening!!), etc. Great venue, a balcony, orchestra pit (best for dancing) lots of comfy seats, etc. Rivaled only on Central by The Sunshine; which is a story for another day (and perhaps by someone who saw more than The Circle Jerks, The Pixies and Social Distortion there). And off Central, The Dingo (home to the smallist Yo La Tango show I have seen. As well as Brainiac , Trans Am, Mike Watt, Etc.)Ah, the many Alberquerque venues (not to mention ALL the bands that played there) that made this Fanta Se resident jealous with their coolness!!
